WRLDGATE Infrastructure

WRL™ — World Registry Layer

WRLDGATE is building a registry layer for digital Worlds.

What is WRL?

The World Registry Layer (WRL™) is being designed as WRLDGATE’s underlying infrastructure for registering, identifying, verifying, resolving, and routing digital Worlds and destinations.

People interact today with names, WorldIDs, World addresses, and WorldProfiles. As WRL develops, it will resolve those public surfaces back to a stable, registered World record underneath them — a persistent identity layer beneath the public-facing World experience.

What WRL is being designed to do

WRL is being designed to keep the identity of a World stable even when its public-facing details evolve. The planned architecture associates a registered World with a canonical system identity, current WorldID, World address, ownership state, status, and routes.

The purpose is simple: a World should be able to change what people see without losing what WRLDGATE knows it is. That is what WRL is being built to make possible.

WRL ID™ vs WorldID

WorldID tells people which World you are. WRL ID is designed to tell WRLDGATE which registered World record you are.

WRL ID™ is the planned immutable canonical system identifier within the WRL architecture. It is designed to be internal by default and to persist for the life of the registered World.

WorldID is the public, human-facing @handle used to identify and access a World today. A WorldID may change under WRLDGATE’s identity rules; the underlying WRL ID is designed to remain persistent through that change.

WRL and the World address

A World address is the public route associated with a World’s current WorldID, such as wrldgate.com/@worldid. As WRL develops, it will resolve that changing public address to the persistent registered World underneath it.

This is the resolution path WRL is being designed to follow, from the persistent registry record down to the public destination.

Why WRL exists

The web is full of names, profiles, pages, destinations, and links that can change over time. WRLDGATE treats a World as something with a persistent identity beneath those changing surfaces, and WRL is the registry layer being built to make that distinction real.

WRL is not a replacement for internet protocols, URLs, or DNS. It is WRLDGATE’s own registry infrastructure for resolving identity and routes inside WRLDGATE.

Frequently asked questions

What does WRL stand for?
On WRLDGATE, WRL stands for World Registry Layer.

Is WRL the same thing as WorldID?
No. WorldID is the public handle a World uses today. WRL is the registry infrastructure WRLDGATE is building underneath it, and WRL ID is the planned persistent identifier for the registered World within that architecture.

Can a WorldID change?
Yes, subject to WRLDGATE’s identity rules. As WRL develops, the goal is for the underlying registered identity to remain stable even when a public WorldID changes.
